Fat people online dating
Don’t want your Web dating service matching you up with any fatties? Ok Cupid.com, which bills itself as “The best dating site on Earth,” is now allowing users to filter their prospects by “body type.” The 9-year-old site, whose basic service is free, is charging a filtering fee, of .95 to a month, for its A-list members.
It allows them to hide the body types they’re not attracted to.
Ok Cupid said singles are going to size up their date prospects according to what they consider physically attractive anyway, so the site is doing nothing different from what goes on in bars and clubs.
The monthly fee varies according to age, length of membership in Ok Cupid and, yes, body type.
What if someone had makeup on, or a padded push up bra, or shapewear in the picture but not on the date? Or is this really more about the social stigma that is placed on being fat, especially as it relates to being a woman.
Do we believe that if everything in the profile is correct but the picture is out of date that person is “lying”?
” Would it be reasonable to say that since I lied about my appearance I obviously can’t be trusted?
Would the men’s behavior be considered an appropriate reaction?
